Be PAWSitive: Therapy Animals and Community Education

You'll find all our information on this page.  More regular updates at "Be PAWSitive" and "TheraPAWS" on Facebook. Our mission and activities include:

1) Developing Therapy Pet Teams
We regularly visit: Fitchburg Public Schools Guided Learning and Pathways classrooms (autism), Fitchburg Public Library (First Saturday of every month, 10:30 to noon in the Youth Library), Leominster Crossing, the Sherriff's Office, Boys and Girls Club, First Parish Unitarian, Lancaster,  the Sundial, and many other locales in the works.

We develop teams and collaborate with Friends of Fitchburg Dogs as there is more demand than providers at present.

Do YOU have a dog, cat, rabbit, small animal? We also welcome Youth Members for Be PAWSitive (age 12 to 18 with a parent).

2) Pet Care Responsibility Education Presentations for schools & youth groups

3) Collaboration with Second Chance Animal Shelter for the "Jeffrey P. Stephens" Low-Cost Pet Vaccine Clinic at Fitchburg Fire Department:
Now in our 12th year for low-cost vaccine clinics at Fitchburg Fire Department.
We hold these clinics in March and September -- check our  Facebookpage for details

4) Media and outreach. Sally Cragin is an award-winning journalist who writes the weekly advice column: "Pet Talk" which appears in the Sentinel and Enterprise, the Lowell Sun, Nashoba Valley News, and has been carried in many area papers. She also writes the weekly: "Pet of the Week" as a collaboration with Leominster Fitchburg ACO, Ahimsa Haven Animal Shelter, Pat Brody Shelter for Cats, Second Chance Animal Shelter, Lowell Humane Society, Manchester (NH) Animal Shelter, and many other shelters and ACOs. This column appears in the Sentinel & Enterprise, Lowell Sun, Nashoba Valley News, Lunenburg Ledger, Stowe News, on Sundays.

Goals of fundraising for Be PAWSitive will be for:
-providing insurance / fees for pet partner teams
-helping pay fees for cats and dogs who are in shelters longterm (more than a few months)
-having supply of leashes / collars available for the Vx. clinic.

-providing food and supplies as requested for shelter animals.
