Be PAWSitive: Therapy Animals and Community Education

Be PAWSitive has created an original CALENDAR of our TheraPAWS therapy pet teams!! Just $15. Email sallycragin@verizon.net and Ashleygreenphoto@gmail.com. We will have these for sale in North Worcester County as well!

1) Developing Therapy Pet Teams
    Ongoing programs at: Highlands Rehab, Fitchburg Public Schools Guided Learning and Pathways classrooms (autism), Mt. Wachusett, Fitchburg Public Library, Leominster Crossing, Institute of Professional Practice, the Arc of Opportunity, Boys and Girls Club, United Neighbors of Fitchburg (Cleghorn Neighborhood Center), First Parish Unitarian, Lancaster, Fitchburg Library, and many other locales in the works. 


We develop teams and collaborate with Friends of Fitchburg Dogs as there is more demand than providers at present.

2) Pet Care Responsibility Education Presentations for schools & youth groups   
  

3) Collaboration with Second Chance Animal Shelter for Clinics
    Now in its fifth year for low-cost vaccine clinics at Fitchburg Fire Department.
    Upcoming: Saturday, October 28, 10 am to noon -- Rabies ($10), Parvo-Distemper ($10) and Microchipping ($20). Leominster. March date, 2018, in Fitchburg TBD


4) Maintaining emergency pet food pantries:

United Neighbors of Fitchburg (formerly Cleghorn Neighborhood Cente) and  Longsjo Middle School during school year.

Donate canned food / dry food for dogs and cats, clean blankets and towels, gently used leashes, collars, harnesses, balls (soccer, basketball, football, and volleyball appreciated by Fitchburg shelter dogs). (See below for additional items)

5) Media and outreach. Sally Cragin writes the weekly advice column: "Pet Talk" which appears in the Sentinel and Enterprise, The Gardner News, Athol Daily News, Leominster Champion, and Lunenburg Ledger. She also writes "Pet of the Week" as a collaboration with Ahimsa Haven Animal Shelter, Pat Brody Shelter for Cats, and many other shelters and ACOs. This column appears in the Sentinel on Sundays.
 

Goals of fundraising for Be PAWSitive will be for:
-providing insurance / fees for pet partner teams
-helping pay fees for cats and dogs who are in shelters longterm (more than a few months)
-having supply of leashes / collars available for the Vx. clinic. 

-providing food and supplies as requested for shelter animals.


WISH LIST / WANT LIST :-)
We are assisting Fitchburg and Leominster dogs and cats who are in shelters and foster homes while they are restored to their families or transition to adoption. We have a donation box at Fitchburg Public Library. We can use:

FOOD
dog food (canned and kibble), peanut butter, plain yogurt
cat food (canned and kibble), cat litter, cat toys

SUPPLIES
leashes, collars, bedding, including old towels and sheets, crib mattresses, carriers, crates...

FOSTER FAMILIES NEEDED FOR ADULT CATS
"Fitchburg Friends of Felines is actively searching for people to foster ADULT cats. The ideal situation is that you do not currently have a cat OR, you have a room to devote to giving a temporary home to a feline in need of a crash pad. Really nice cats available
